In our last few days in Galicia we found an awesome stretch of coastline with perfect waves for surfing. Both Jett and Kaia stood up on their boards! Jett declared it the best day of his life! We had so much fun that we went back the next day. Towards the end of our surfing session, Jett started screaming in pain. At first we thought he cut his foot on a rock, but it was so painful, we sought out help from a lifeguard. The lifeguard immediately started suctioning his foot and told us that it was a weeverfish sting. These fish a normally below the sand but can come out when it is low tide and impart a tell-tale sting of 3 puncture wounds from their 3 dorsal spines. Jett was in incredible pain even after the suctioning. We were told that he needed to soak his foot in hot water. We had to find a restaurant down the road and asked for a bucket of hot water. After soaking his foot for about 30 minutes the pain started to subside.
The next day, we headed back to Madrid via high-speed rail. It was very fun and relaxing. We are going to have to travel by train more. We got back to Madrid not feeling like we were traveling all day! Hopefully California will get on our highspeed rail soon!
Poor Jett…that is horrible. I’m sure it was scary. Congrats on standing up, though…tough end to best day of his life. Glad you are enjoying the high speed rail that is complemented sensibly with regular rail and bus service, and connects major metropolitan areas in logical stops!
